Quebec Liberal Frédéric Beauchemin has decided to join the race for his party’s leadership.
Beauchemin is set to make an official announcement this Friday in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The Canadian Press has confirmed his intention to run, following initial reports from Radio-Canada.
He will be the fourth candidate seeking to replace Dominique Anglade, alongside former Montreal mayor Denis Coderre, lawyer Marc Bélanger, and Charles Milliard, the former president of the Quebec chambers of commerce federation.
Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez is also considering a run but has yet to confirm his candidacy for the provincial party's leadership.
Beauchemin, who currently represents the Montreal riding of Marguerite-Bourgeoys, has already received endorsements from fellow legislature member Sona Lakhoyan Olivier and former Quebec finance minister Carlos Leitão.
The leadership race officially begins in January, with the new leader set to be announced in June 2025.
