Quebec military base accident: 16 soldiers released from hospital, investigation underway
The public affairs office of the CAF initially reported 16 members of the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has launched an investigation following an accident that sent more than a dozen soldiers to hospitals in Quebec.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and involved two armored vehicles in the training areas at Valcartier military base, near Quebec City.
Initially, the CAF's public affairs office reported that 16 members of the 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group were hospitalized with minor injuries. In an update on Wednesday, the office clarified that all soldiers involved had been taken to various hospitals in the Quebec City area for evaluation "as a precautionary measure."
“All the soldiers were released from hospital this morning and are expected to resume training very shortly,” the office confirmed.
Both civilian and military emergency services responded to the situation, and the CAF expressed gratitude for the civilian services' “rapid response.”
An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the accident.
“We are currently working on repairing the damaged equipment so that we can resume our training activities in support of our missions,” the office added.
