Quebec police searching for missing woman from Hemmingford near U.S. border
Command post in place to find Kelsey Watt, last seen on Covey Hill Road on Saturday
Provincial police are continuing their search for a missing 29-year-old woman from Hemmingford, Quebec.
Last Saturday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Kelsey Watt.
Watt was last seen around 12:30 p.m. that day on Covey Hill Road in Hemmingford, a town located in southern Quebec near the U.S. border.
She is described as being five feet six inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with green eyes and red hair. Watt is believed to be travelling on foot and was wearing a black coat when she was last seen.
On Sunday, the SQ established a command post, and on Tuesday, they announced that it would remain active indefinitely.
Watt's mother, Deborah Beattie, shared that within an hour of requesting help, approximately 300 volunteers came forward to join the search for her daughter.
"It's something that's unheard of," Beattie said. "We were moved by all the support we received."
Earlier on Tuesday, Watt's relatives issued a media statement expressing deep gratitude for the overwhelming community response since her disappearance.
"We are grateful beyond expression for the outpouring of generosity from our community," they wrote. "Thank you to the firefighters, volunteers, SQ, RCMP, police, those who brought food, and the organizers of vigils."
Anyone with information on Watt's whereabouts or who may have seen her is encouraged to call 911 or reach the SQ at 1-800-659-4264.
