Quebec Premier François Legault to shuffle cabinet after ‘superminister’ steps down

Quebec Premier François Legault is set to reorganize his cabinet later Thursday following the abrupt resignation of one of his key ministers.
Pierre Fitzgibbon, the influential “superminister” overseeing the economy and energy portfolios, resigned on Wednesday, citing a loss of motivation for his role.
Legault is expected to conclude a caucus retreat in Rimouski, Quebec, later Thursday and will hold a press conference to address the situation.
Afterward, he will head to Quebec City to announce Fitzgibbon’s successor.
The new appointee will take on a significant energy reform bill, with hearings scheduled to start next week as the legislature reconvenes for the fall session.
In addition to his roles in the economy and energy sectors, Fitzgibbon was also responsible for innovation and served as the minister for the Montreal region.
