Québec solidaire’s Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois taking parental leave
“With Hélène, I realized that we can’t do everything in life. We can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of our own,” he wrote.
Nadeau-Dubois already has a little girl, Hélène, who was born in 2022. At the time, he only took a month off, and he says he now regrets not having stopped longer.
He says that these are precious moments to spend as a family, but also “a challenge that is best experienced as a couple, especially with two young children at home.”
Nadeau-Dubois will be on leave both at the National Assembly and in his constituency office. The party’s co-spokesperson, Ruba Ghazal, will take over in Quebec City, while his colleague Alejandra Zaga Mendez will help him in his office in the Gouin riding in Montreal.
“With Hélène, I realized that we can’t do everything in life. We can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of our own,” he wrote.
“We can’t defend the values of gender equality and solidarity for Quebec if we don’t first apply them in our lives. Before being a politician, I am a father and a boyfriend.”
Members of the National Assembly do not have parental leave per se. Currently, it is possible for parliamentarians to take leave, but it is not defined.
