Robert Kennedy Jr. defends Cheryl Hines' position against Trump and disparages Bradley Whitford
He stressed that while Hines wanted to be supportive of him, she never encouraged his decision to team up with Trump.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently clarified that his wife, actor Cheryl Hines, does not support Donald Trump, and he accused "West Wing" alum Bradley Whitford of bullying her in a social media post.
Kennedy, who dropped his independent presidential bid to endorse Republican nominee Trump last week, has reportedly taken on a staffing advisory role in Trump's transition team should he win the election.
Hines faced significant backlash after she praised her husband’s decision to run on a platform of unity in a thank-you message to campaign workers on X, without mentioning his alliance with Trump.
Kennedy emphasized that Hines did not support his decision to align with Trump in any capacity. “She is a lifelong Democrat, and the idea of me supporting Donald Trump ... it’s something she would have never imagined, that she never wanted in her life,” he explained, adding that the situation has caused her considerable discomfort.
Kennedy also confirmed that Hines attended a meeting with him and Trump, but noted that her primary reason for being there was to ensure that no hasty decisions were made, as it was a difficult situation for her.
He stressed that while Hines wanted to be supportive of him, she never encouraged his decision to team up with Trump.
Among those who criticized Hines, Whitford’s comments stood out due to their personal nature and his celebrity status.
He tweeted, “Hey @CherylHines, way to stay silent while your lunatic husband throws his support behind the adjudicated rapist who brags about stripping women of their fundamental rights.”
When asked about Whitford's comments by TMZ’s Harvey Levin, Kennedy expressed his strong disapproval, stating, “I had to suppress some strong feelings about that. It’s a template for bullying. ... Instead of challenging me, he’s attacking my wife. Who would do that? What kind of man would do that? Why wouldn’t he talk to me directly?”
