Ronaldo says he will probably retire at Al Nassr in two or three years

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his intention to finish his career with Al Nassr, though he expects that to be two or three years away.

The Portuguese star has dispelled any rumors of a return to his former club, Sporting Lisbon, by confirming he plans to remain in Saudi Arabia until his retirement.

“I’m not sure if I’ll retire soon, in two or three years, but I likely will retire here at Al Nassr,” Ronaldo told Portuguese channel NOW. “I’m very happy at this club and in this country. I’m enjoying playing in Saudi Arabia and want to continue.”

Ronaldo joined the Saudi Pro League in December 2022 after leaving Manchester United under strained circumstances. He has netted 50 goals in 48 appearances for Al Nassr.

Despite the high-profile move, Al Nassr has not won any trophies since his arrival, finishing second in the Saudi Pro League last season and losing the 2023-24 King’s Cup to Al Hilal.

His contract, reported to be worth over $220 million, reflects the magnitude of the deal.

At 39 years old, Ronaldo started all of Portugal’s matches at Euro 2024, where they advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by France on penalties.

He plans to continue representing Portugal for now and hopes to participate in the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Poland.

“When I decide to leave the national team, I won’t announce it in advance; it will be a spontaneous and well-considered decision,” Ronaldo added. “For now, I want to help the national team in the upcoming games. I’m looking forward to the Nations League.”

With 898 career goals to his name, Ronaldo also shared that he has no interest in pursuing a managerial role after retiring.

“At the moment, I’m not considering becoming a head coach or managing any team,” he said. “It’s not something I’ve ever thought about. I see myself doing other things outside of football, but only time will tell what the future holds.”
