Montreal police (SPVM) are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect involved in an aggravated assault on a passerby in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area this past summer.
The incident occurred on July 4 around 7:55 p.m. Police report that the victim was walking north of Sherbrooke Street E., near Lyall Street, while speaking on the phone with wireless headphones.
The suspect reportedly called out to the victim, asking if they were talking to him. When the victim clarified that they were not, the suspect allegedly insulted them in English. The victim responded briefly before continuing on their way.
The suspect then allegedly grabbed the victim, striking them at the back of the neck and leaving them unconscious on the ground before fleeing south on Arcand Street. The victim sustained major injuries and was hospitalized.
The SPVM describes the suspect as between 25 and 30 years old, about five-foot-four, with short black hair.
He was wearing a black sweater with a blue logo on the front, black shorts with a white logo on the left leg, black sandals with white detailing, and glasses.
