CityNews Toronto on X: "It was a swift kick in the behind for one diehard Taylor #Swift fan after her coveted tickets to one of the pop sensation's sold-out Toronto shows

One Taylor Swift fan experienced a crushing disappointment after discovering that her prized tickets to one of the singer’s sold-out Toronto concerts had been stolen from her Ticketmaster account.

Alicia Gilby shared with CityNews that her sister, Gillian, was among the fortunate Swifties who had secured second-row seats for one of the six upcoming shows at the Rogers Centre.

With the November concert fast approaching, the sisters should have been eagerly anticipating the event. Instead, Gillian tearfully called her sister with devastating news.

"My sister called me, probably close to 11 p.m., and said, ‘You’re about to start crying. You’re going to be so upset, but my tickets have been stolen.’ I was just shocked, and she was shocked too,” Alicia said.

The sisters are still unsure of exactly what went wrong, but weeks earlier, Gillian had received an email from Ticketmaster stating that her tickets had been transferred to someone she didn’t recognize.

"I was really upset," Gillian admitted. "I was crying a little. I felt guilty."

She immediately reached out to Ticketmaster, who informed her that the issue would be forwarded to their fraud department, and she would hear back within three to five business days. However, almost three weeks later, there is still no resolution.

Gillian’s case isn’t isolated. Other Swift fans in the U.S. have reported similar issues with their tickets disappearing from their online accounts.

Cybersecurity expert Ritesh Kotak emphasized the importance of fans closely monitoring their accounts and utilizing available security measures.

He explained that resolving such cases could take time, as Ticketmaster would need to investigate who accessed the account.

"Every time you log in, there’s an IP address — both a physical and a virtual address," Kotak explained.

"It’s a long, strenuous investigation… And from another angle, tickets that are stolen might be resold to unsuspecting buyers who think they’re purchasing from a legitimate source, possibly spending thousands of dollars."

To avoid similar issues, Kotak recommends regularly changing passwords, avoiding the reuse of old passwords, and always enabling multi-factor authentication.

CityNews contacted Ticketmaster regarding the Gilby sisters’ situation. A representative stated they would be investigating the case, but no further details were provided.
