Taylor Swift in Toronto: $70K in losses from ‘undelivered tickets’ under investigation
Police said the estimated total value of these tickets is more than $70,000.
An Ontario police force is investigating significant losses linked to "undelivered tickets" for Taylor Swift’s concerts in Toronto.
Halton Regional Police reported receiving 40 complaints regarding "fraudulent or nonexistent tickets" from a single vendor for Swift’s Eras Tour performances. The total value of the affected tickets is estimated at over $70,000.
Swift is currently performing in Toronto, with the first weekend of shows concluded. The final three concerts are scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Rogers Centre.
Several fans have shared their experiences on social media of being scammed for thousands of dollars while trying to secure tickets. One woman spoke about losing $1,400 in an attempt to buy four tickets for the Nov. 16 show.
Secondary resale platforms like StubHub and Seatgeek are listing tickets at prices reaching as high as $33,000, as demand for the sold-out shows remains intense.
Halton police’s financial crimes unit is looking into the fraudulent activities related to these tickets. Residents of Halton Region are urged to come forward, while those from other areas are encouraged to contact their local police.
"Residents are urged to exercise caution when purchasing tickets and be aware of possible frauds and scams," the police warned. No arrests have been made as of yet.
