Teen shot in Scarborough high school parking lot

A 16-year-old boy was shot in a Scarborough high school parking lot on Monday morning, leading to lockdowns at six nearby schools, according to police.

Three of the schools have since moved to "hold and secure" mode, meaning that while exterior doors are locked, normal activities continue inside, as stated on the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) website.

The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. near Midland Avenue and Lockie Avenue.

The boy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, police reported.

The incident took place in the parking lot of Agincourt Collegiate Institute. Parents of students at the school can pick them up at the Agincourt Recreation Centre, located at 31 Glen Watford Drive, police said.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon, the TDSB announced that the lockdown at Agincourt Collegiate Institute would begin to lift gradually at 3 p.m.

Police also shared a suspect description on X, identifying the suspect as a 17- to 18-year-old male, wearing a blue Nike sweater with multiple zippers and dark pants.

The following schools were placed in lockdown following the shooting, according to Toronto police:

  • Henry Kelsey Senior Public School
  • Sir Alexander Mackenzie Senior Public School
  • Chartland Junior Public School
  • North Agincourt Junior Public School
  • St. Bartholomew Catholic School
  • Iroquois Junior Public School
