Teens at Petawawa school are "facing consequences" following a firearm threat
It was found that the individual responsible for the threat did not have access to firearms and did not initially understand the severity of their comments.
A young individual will face repercussions related to a threat made against a school in Petawawa, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On Monday morning around 8:30 a.m., the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP began investigating a threatening phone message that mentioned using a firearm at the school.
OPP officers, along with school officials, acted swiftly to identify the potential suspect and examine the threat.
It was found that the individual responsible for the threat did not have access to firearms and did not initially understand the severity of their comments.
Following the investigation, a 14-year-old from Pembroke will undergo Extra Judicial Measures (EJM) as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), and their parents have been informed.
The youth's name cannot be disclosed due to the provisions of the YCJA.
Police confirm that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
