The Blakeney Bridge will remain closed until 2025 because of weather-related issues

The reopening of Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills has been postponed.
Originally scheduled to reopen in December 2024, the date has been delayed due to weather-related issues.
“Unseasonable precipitation and elevated river flows have impacted the progress of essential construction work in the water,” said Sean Derouin, Lanark County Public Works Manager.
Derouin noted that water flow rates have been three to five times higher than normal, creating unsafe conditions for the project.
Construction will pause for the winter and is expected to resume in April 2025, with the new completion date set for late May 2025.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to complete this vital infrastructure improvement,” Derouin added.
