Toronto man arrested in Quebec in terror investigation: sources
Arrest happened in Ormstown, Que., on Wednesday
The RCMP arrested a man from the Toronto area on Wednesday in connection with a terrorism investigation in a small Quebec town near the U.S. border.
Sources involved in the investigation confirmed to CBC News that the arrest took place in Ormstown, Quebec, and is tied to a terror-related case. However, authorities have not yet released any official information about the arrest, which occurred approximately 60 kilometres south of Montreal.
Elizabeth Henshaw, a resident of Ormstown, told Radio-Canada that she arrived home Wednesday to find her street filled with police officers. She described seeing a man handcuffed on her front lawn and a woman in cuffs on her front porch.
"[The police] said it was confidential and they couldn't tell me what was going on," Henshaw said.
She also noted that police were searching a vehicle on her street, which was eventually towed away. Henshaw described Ormstown as a "very quiet little town" with a population of just under 4,000, according to Statistics Canada.
"It was very unusual, it was the talk of the town," she added.
Photos shared with CBC News and circulating on social media showed a large police presence, including officers in tactical gear, near a local gas station.
