Quebec provincial police (SQ) responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:15 a.m. regarding an incident on Champlain Street.
According to authorities, a school employee was stabbed in the upper body by a 30-year-old suspect.
"A perimeter was established, and the premises were quickly secured to ensure no one could enter or leave without knowing the suspect’s intentions," the SQ stated in a press release.
Police located and arrested the suspect, who was transported to the hospital for treatment.
"He will be interviewed once his condition allows," the SQ added.
The victim was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
CEGEP de Valleyfield posted on Facebook, "The library will be closed for now. Study centers remain open, and classes and activities continue."
Shortly afterward, photos and videos surfaced on social media showing smoke coming from the college building, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether the two incidents are related.
The investigation is ongoing.
