Veteran Quebec TV exec Marie-Philippe Bouchard named new CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada
Bouchard will begin 5-year term in January
Marie-Philippe Bouchard, an experienced Quebec television executive, has been named the next president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada.
Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge announced that Bouchard will begin her five-year term at Canada’s public broadcaster on January 3, 2025.
Bouchard currently serves as the president and CEO of TV5 Quebec Canada, a role she has held since 2016. She previously held various management roles at the CBC and was a member of the advisory committee established by St-Onge last May to explore the future direction of CBC/Radio-Canada.
The broadcaster described Bouchard's appointment as the outcome of a “rigorous, open, transparent, and merit-based selection process.”
Bouchard will succeed Catherine Tait, who has led CBC/Radio-Canada since 2018.
On Monday, Tait expressed frustration over her interactions with the parliamentary heritage committee, accusing members of using her testimonies to "vilify and discredit" both her and the public broadcaster. Her recent appearance before the committee focused on executive bonuses awarded despite the organization facing a budget shortfall.
