Winter tire deadline in Quebec Dec. 1
Drivers without them could be fined $200 to $300.
Although winter may not yet be visible around Montreal, the deadline for installing winter tires in Quebec is fast approaching. Starting December 1, drivers who do not have winter tires on their vehicles could face fines ranging from $200 to $300.
According to Quebec’s highway safety code, all vehicles must be equipped with winter tires from December 1 to March 15.
Laura Cousineau, a long-time customer of a local tire retailer, shared, “I can see a difference between having summer and winter tires.”
While the deadline for winter tires is December 1 and snow is expected, the Quebec government advises that for variable spring conditions, it is best to wait a few weeks after this period to switch to all-season or summer tires.
This regulation applies to all motor vehicles registered in Quebec, including rental cars, though it does not cover trailers.
