Woman murdered in Candiac after alleged death threats, partner arrested
Although police have not disclosed the exact details surrounding Ye’s death, court documents suggest that the murder may have occurred on or around November 7.
A 36-year-old man, Shilei Du, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Guangmei Ye in Candiac, located on Montreal’s South Shore.
Du, who was Ye’s partner, had previously been ordered by the court to stay away from her after allegedly threatening her life in September.
These threats reportedly occurred within the context of their relationship. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges at the time and was released on bail on October 15 with conditions, including maintaining a distance of at least 500 meters from Ye.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a concerned acquaintance called 911 to report a potential issue at Ye's residence on de Fontenelle Street in Candiac.
Upon arriving, police discovered Ye's body, and her death was confirmed at the scene.
Shortly after, Du was apprehended and later made a brief court appearance at the Longueuil courthouse, where he was formally charged with premeditated murder.
Initially, the Régie intermunicipale de police Roussillon began the investigation, which has since been taken over by the Sûreté du Québec’s Crimes Against the Person Division.
Although police have not disclosed the exact details surrounding Ye’s death, court documents suggest that the murder may have occurred on or around November 7.
Du, who is currently listed as residing in Montreal, was arrested at the Candiac home where Ye was found. The case is scheduled for another court hearing on November 19.
Ye’s death marks the 23rd homicide of a woman in Quebec this year and the 13th believed to be linked to domestic violence.
